Visitors to the upcoming Gillingham & Shaftesbury Show are being alerted to last-minute emergency road closures taking place in the area.
Visitors to the Gillingham and Shaftesbury Show at the Turnpike Showground in Motcombe on Wednesday, August 14, and Thursday, August 15, are advised to be aware of immediate road closures in the area.
The annual farm show organisers have been notified by Dorset Council that impromptu emergency road closures would occur from August 12 to August 16.
Dorset Highways reports that for the course of the four days, the Melbury Abbas/Spread Eagle Hill (C13) will undergo critical repairs, resulting in a 24-hour closure of the region.
“We have received notification of this work with less than a week to go before our annual rural show,” stated Cat Harris, the festival’s organiser. Dorset Council has told me that there will be obvious signage to reroute vehicles onto the A30 and maintain as much ease of travel as feasible.
Although not ideal, the timing is beyond our control. The closure, according to Dorset Council, is necessary for critical road maintenance that cannot wait.
“We would urge anyone coming to the show to be aware of these issues in advance of travelling and perhaps allow more time to get to and from the Showground,” she continued. “Traffic in the area gets very busy with exhibitors and visitors to the show.”
The Turnpike Showground is hosting the Gillingham & Shaftesbury Show this year to commemorate 30 years of events.
The Gillingham & Shaftesbury Agricultural Society is putting up the show, which will have a funfair, live bands, vintage cars and machinery, equestrian activities, cattle parades, agricultural and countryside exhibits, and more.
