Enfield Town’s 25-year-old striker Marcus Wyllie has officially joined Gillingham.
Wyllie scored 34 goals in 49 games across all competitions last season, and he was a major factor in Enfield Town’s promotion to the National League South.
After a fantastic campaign that saw them defeat Wingate & Finchley in the play-off semi-finals, Enfield defeated Chatham Town in the Bauvill Stadium final.
“I am really excited to be here; it all happened so quickly and I am still processing it,” said Wyllie.
“This is what I have always wanted, and I am delighted to finally get the chance to do it.”
Director of Football at Gillingham, Kenny Jackett, underlined the importance of the acquisition by saying, “This is a really significant signing for us.” It is our duty as a community club to comb the various leagues for players that we think have a bright future and can strengthen our team.”
“We have done our due diligence on Marcus,” Jackett continued. He is a powerful, diligent young man who enjoyed a successful season with Enfield Town. I am confident Gillingham supporters will take pleasure in watching him play.”
“Our recruitment team are working very hard to spot talent in our region who have the capabilities to play at our level, and possibly even higher,” Jackett added, highlighting the club’s recruitment approach. Players are given the chance to demonstrate their abilities, and we’ll keep working hard to improve the quality of our current setup.”
