More rain is on the way
The consequences of the September rain are still being felt in Surrey. The county, which stretches from north to south, is under seven flood alerts, and the rainy weather is expected to persist.
Rain is expected to fall on Monday afternoon in several parts of Surrey, according to the Met Office’s forecast. Even though the day started off dry, a band of rain is moving south, so it might turn wetter this afternoon.
The Met Office’s rainfall radar map shows that from midday the Surrey may seen rain, the heaviest of which will be concentrated on the northern parts of the county. A larger band of rain is also expected to hit around 3pm brining up to 8mm of rain an hour as it works its way South.
This rain comes as the Environment Agency has issued seven flood alerts for Surrey. Issued 2 and 12 hours before potential flooding they are released to alert residents to prepare. The alerts are for:
- Chertsey Bourne – Staines, Virginia Water, Shepperton, Walton, West and East Molesey
- Lower River Colne and Frays River – Staines, Virginia Water, Walton
- River Blackwater and The Cove Brook – Camberley
- River Mole and its tributaries from Kinnersley Manor to South Hersham – Leatherhead, Reigate, Dorking
- River Thames from Datchet to Shepperton Green – Staines, Egham, Walton
- River Thames from Shepperton to Molesey – Walton, West Molesey
- Upper River Wey – Guildford, Godalming, Haslemere
After this the weather forecast is looking calmer. The Met Office forecasts that Wednesday (October 2) will start damp but then brighten up throughout the day. There could still be isolated showers but these will be focused outside of Surrey, on the eastern coast.
The rest of the week is looking drier, with generally light winds and temperatures near or above average.
