Exciting Barcelona ace could be sold to Saudi club in order to raise Nico Williams funds

There’s never a dull moment at Barcelona these days, and it looks like the squad will spend big to recruit Nico Williams of Athletic Club. This means that one intriguing first-team player will likely be eased out the door and towards a move to the Saudi Pro League.

Barcelona will sell Vitor Roque to land Nico Williams

The issue remains his reported €58m release clause, which the Catalans are still unable to square off under Financial Fair Play just yet.

With other clubs believed to be interested in the 21-year-old’s services, the blaugranes will need to work hard and fast to bring Williams to Catalonia.

In order to help push through his transfer, Sport are reporting that Barcelona are preparing to sell Vitor Roque to an as yet unnamed Saudi Pro League club.

The outlet note that not only would Barca recoup the money they paid for the 19-year-old, but they would also get a significant financial uplift on that €30m (The Athletic, subscription required) outlay.

It’s an incredible reversal for the team, considering that Xavi’s supposed dismissal stemmed in part from his perceived failure to provide Vitor Roque with enough playing time during the second half of the 2023–2024 campaign.

Williams’ aspirations are so great that Messrs. Laporta, Deco, and Flick appear to be in agreement that approving a deal for the young Brazilian is the only way to secure the Athletic Club winger for good.

That was something that would have appeared extremely implausible merely a few weeks ago.
