The crash happened this morning on Route 196 near the Topsham/Lisbon line.
TOPSHAM, Maine: A dump truck driver was sent to a nearby hospital to receive medical attention for injuries sustained in a head-on accident with a Cadillac SUV on Route 196 in Topsham.
Around 7:40 a.m., the Topsham Police Department responded to the collision along the town line between Topsham and Lisbon.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a red 2020 Western Star dump truck on its side after it left the roadway and a 2008 Cadillac SRX on its side and still in the roadway, Topsham police said in a news release.
The driver of the dump truck, a 52-year-old man from Greene, was brought to Central Maine Medical Center with injuries not considered life-threatening.
Police said the two people in the SUV at the time of the crash, a 28-year-old man from Casco who was driving the vehicle and a 64-year-old passenger from Lewiston, both denied medical injury or transport.
Moments before they collided, witnesses told police, the eastbound SUV had strayed into the path of the westbound dump truck.
For a duration of thirty to forty-five minutes, Route 196 remained closed as the cars and debris were cleared from the road. Investigations into the crash are still ongoing.
