Before he fell down the ladder, Tom Edwards had risen through the ranks at Port Valle to play in the Premier League and win the Stanley Matthews Footballer of the Year award.
After joining Salford City, Tom Edwards is expected to start the opening game of the next phase of his career against Port Vale.
The 25-year-old right-back, who had been a member of Stoke City’s roster since he was eight years old and still attending Stafford elementary school, departed the team at the end of the previous month. Before his fame faded, he had overcome all obstacles to lead the under-18 team to the FA Youth Cup semi-final, make his Premier League debut, and win Stanley Matthews Footballer of the Year in 2019.
After agreeing to a long-term contract in October 2019, he barely made an impression. Since then, he has been on loan at Fleetwood Town, Barnsley, Huddersfield, and the New York Red Bulls. He decided to start a new chapter after his contract with bet365 Stadium expired, and he signed as a free agent with League Two Salford. Karl Robinson, who began his coaching career at Alsager Town, where Edwards’s brother Jack, a winger who plays for Lichfield City now, was a player, will be his manager.
In an attempt to gain promotion, Robinson added Edwards as his fourth summer addition, joining forward Cole Stockton, midfielder Daniel Chesters, and defender Stephan Negru.
“I want to be very successful as an individual, but also as a team,” Edwards stated. I want to advance while I’m here because I know this club has high goals. Since you can clearly sense the vibe of the place and I am enjoying my time here already, I am really happy to sign; I couldn’t wait to do it. I can’t wait to start hanging out with the boys.
“I’ve played in the MLS for two seasons, and that was a great experience for me. I felt that was probably the main one which allowed me to grow as a player,” he continued. “I’ve been around League One and the Championship.”
