Dark aftermath of the A40 flooding that left wheel trims in the ditch and trapped cars

For Thursday and Friday, there is now another weather warning in effect.

An photograph displays the damage caused by flooding along Gloucestershire’s A40. During Friday’s rainy weather, flash floods severely damaged a stretch of road east of Cheltenham.

There were reports of stranded motorists on the important highway connecting Oxford and Cheltenham due to rising water levels. The heavy rain had raised the water levels by the road.

Over the next three days, the county is expected to get more rain. For the county, a severe weather warning is in effect from Thursday night through Friday morning.

Sandra Jeans, whose husband Tony lives on the south side of the A40 across from the Dowdeswell Reservoir, contributed the photo at the top of the story with Gloucestershire. She shared with us her experience during the flash floods.

“There is a low point on the A40 that collects a lot of surface water, and it is passable if people follow the advice provided by different organizations, like the Fire & Rescue Service,” she stated. Careful drivers slow down, apply danger warning lights to warn oncoming traffic, and proceed cautiously.

Fast drivers destroy retaining walls and fences, cause accidents involving other vehicles, and frequently lose parts of their cars, most notably wheel trims. After the flooding subsided, we cleaned up the debris off the road, our property entry, and the highway verges.
