A prison term has been imposed on a Carlisle man who stole a tracksuit during a city burglary and was spotted wearing it days later.
The 30-year-old, heavily convicted Kane Queen had been staying at a Warwick Road home where sober addicts are provided with housing and help for a short period of time.
After leaving the program, Queen returned to crime when he returned to the Warwick Road property on April 30, Carlisle Crown Court heard today.
Regarding Queen’s brief stay at the aforementioned address, prosecutor Brendan Burke stated, “That gives him knowledge of the premises.” “And, above all, schedules; being aware of the times of meetings and the occasions when the premises will be vacant due to therapy sessions”
When the two residents came back inside, they saw that Queen had crept inside and taken watches, aftershave, and clothes.
“In actuality, Mr. Burke stated, interest in this defendant was sparked by his clothes.”
On May 18, a resident noticed him wearing the tracksuit that had been taken from him during the break-in. Then he reported his suspicions to the police. After that, CCTV was examined, and this defendant was found there.
Queen then racially abused a stunned police officer while she was being held.
He had broken through the front entrance of Carlisle’s Co-op store on Denton Street in the dark of night in January of this year, taking forty pounds worth of booze with him.
When he appeared in court, he acknowledged two burglaries, a charge of racially motivated public order violations, and violating two conditional orders that had been issued for earlier offences.
The court was informed that he had committed 73 offences, including several burglaries, and that he had once more set off the automatic three-year prison sentence for repeat offenders.
Verity Quaite, a defence attorney, acknowledged Queen’s horrendous criminal history. She mentioned he had experienced severe trauma in his past, and after one of his many more recent bereavements, he went into a downward spiral and started using crack cocaine.
Queen received a reduced sentence of 29 months in jail as a result of his guilty pleas, according to Recorder Anesta Weekes KC.
