Coventry City set to complete PSV Einhoven lad deal

The 23-year-old has not been willing to be sold by the Sky Blues during that time, according to Dutch writer Marco Timmer.

Van Ewijk moved to the CBS Arena last summer after agreeing to a reputed £3.4 million contract to join from his home team, Heerenveen in the Netherlands.

After that, the right-back had a fantastic rookie season with Coventry last year, helping them to a ninth-place finish in the Championship and an FA Cup semifinal appearance.

Even if the Sky Blues don’t seem to be in the market to sell, it appears that this summer has generated a lot of interest in him.
PSV interested in Milan van Ewijk

According to the most recent report, PSV did express interest in van Ewijk earlier in the summer, but no real progress was made.

That position is reportedly still in place today, and Coventry is hesitant to let the 23-year-old in the window at this time.

The window is set to close in a few days, so Mark Robins’ team won’t have much time to find a suitable alternative.

Van Ewijk’s contract with the Sky Blues is still in effect for three more years, which guarantees him a spot at the CBS Arena till the conclusion of the 2026–2027 campaign.

Because of this, they are well-positioned to react to any interest that may arise in the right-back in the days leading up to the transfer deadline.

In fact, according to sources from the Dutch website SoccerNews.NL, Coventry has put a €8 million price tag on van Ewijk for this summer.

After winning four of their first three league games this year, Coventry is currently ranked ninth in the early Championship standings.

They will first play Oxford United in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night, and then on Saturday afternoon they will play Norwich City at the CBS Arena.

With three wins out of the first three games of the current season, PSV, which won the Dutch championship the previous year, is once again atop the Eredivisie rankings.

Coventry right to keep hold of Milan van Ewijk

This certainly looks to be the right stance for the Sky Blues to take when it comes to the future of van Ewijk.

The right-back has been an excellent addition since his arrival at the club, and he is not a player whose influence any team would want to lose.

Meanwhile, his contract situation means they do not need to worry about losing him on the cheap anytime soon.

Naturally, this implies that Coventry shouldn’t be under any pressure to sell this summer, and they are well-positioned to communicate this to any prospective buyers in the last few days of the window.

Of course, letting him leave now would be a risky move, since there isn’t much time left to identify, negotiate, and finalise a contract for a successor before the window expires.

Van Ewijk would undoubtedly need to be replaced by Coventry if he were to leave, given their lack of depth at right-back.

Nevertheless, should the possibility of a transfer to PSV ever materialise, the right-back would be enticed by the opportunity to play in Europe and fight for titles.

Therefore, if the Dutch side were to genuinely make a bid for his services, that might change the whole picture.

Until the transfer market shuts, Coventry City will need to maintain their position that van Ewijk is not for sale if they hope to have the best opportunity of having a successful season.
