Colchester United and Norwich United target signs for Swindon Town after Notts County departure

The fourth-tier trio will have to look for alternative targets in his position over the next few weeks as they get ready for the 2024–25 season to begin as the player has now joined with Swindon.

Following his departure from Notts County, Richard Brindley, who was linked to Colchester United, Norwich, and Bromley, has signed with Swindon Town, the club’s official website stated.
This summer, the National League team was able to convince the defender to move down a division. In recent months, he has been considering his options as a free agent.

After working at Meadow Lane for five years, Brindley, 31, severed his connection to Notts County this summer. Journalist Pete O’Rourke on X claims that he was being considered by the three League Two teams Colchester United, Norwich, and Bromley in advance of the upcoming campaign.

But according to the most recent information available, Swindon Town has signed him. He stated on the club’s official website: “I’m overjoyed! I’m happy that the deal has been worked out and I’m excited about it.

Under Kelvin Davis, the former custodian for Southampton, Luton Town, Ipswich Town and Sunderland, the Spitfires finished 13th in the table the previous season.

Notts County has benefited greatly from Brindley’s service in recent years, as he provided them with valuable depth at the defence.

The Magpies had released several players in addition to him. After being loaned back to their original clubs, Aden Baldwin, Tobi Adebayo, Jim O’Brien, John Bostock, and Luther Munakandafa also left. Luca Ashby-Hammond, Jaden Warner, and Charlie Colkett returned.

Brindley began his professional career at Norwich City and progressed through the Carrow Road academy.

Nevertheless, he never played as a senior for the Canaries and departed when he was young to spend time permanently with Chesterfield and Chelmsford City.

After signing with Rotherham United, the right-back played for the South Yorkshire team for two years, spending some of that time on loan at Colchester United, Oxford United, and Scunthorpe United.
After that, Brindley worked for Barnet and Bromley until joining Notts County in 2019.

Along with Wrexham, he contributed to the Magpies’ promotion from non-league football last season.
