According to state police, an erratic motorist was engaged in three crashes on Sunday, including a head-on collision in Wallingford, killing one and badly injuring two others.
Troopers responded to many reports of an erratic vehicle on Interstate 95 this afternoon. The vehicle reportedly continued onto Route 15 before entering Wallingford.
While investigating, investigators discovered the erratic vehicle was a Cadillac Escalade driven by 42-year-old Jonathan Garcia of Wallingford. Garcia was travelling on South Turnpike Road just before 4 p.m.
According to state police, Garcia crossed the double yellow line and collided with a Chevrolet Silverado heading north. According to investigators, during the offset head-on accident, the Escalade’s front end collided with the Silverado’s left front end.
Garcia was sent to the hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries. He was eventually pronounced deceased.
Both the driver and passenger in the Silverado were brought to the hospital. Both of their injuries are considered life-threatening.
State police said before the crash, troopers had been following the Escalade and attempted to stop it. The Escalade had reportedly been driving erratically in several towns.
