Bellshill resident unsafe following mysterious incidents as car goes up in flames once again

Emergency services respond to a car fire on Clydesdale Road in Bellshill.

Residents on a Lanarkshire street say they feel “unsafe” after being awakened by loud “bangs” from a car fire for the second time this month.

At approximately 12.08 a.m. on Tuesday, emergency services were dispatched to Clydesdale Road in Bellshill in response to reports of a burning automobile.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, and there were no reported injuries. The police are examining the fire as intentional.

A concerned homeowner told STV News that this is the second incident in the region in the previous three weeks, and she feels “unsafe”.

Firefighters were summoned to neighbouring Kirklee Road at 10 p.m. after another automobile caught fire.

The tenant stated, “The bangs from the fire woke me up.” I do not feel protected since I have a child.”

A video of the most recent incident shows the truck engulfed in flames as residents throw buckets of water on it.

A representative for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service stated: “We were notified at 00.08am on Tuesday to reports of a car on fire on Clydesdale Road in Bellshill.

“Operations Control immediately dispatched one appliance to the scene, and firefighters extinguished the fire.”

“There were no reported casualties and crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”

Police Scotland confirmed that both incidents are being treated as intentional.

Detective Constable Ian Dymock said: “We are fortunate that no one was hurt in these reckless acts, but the damage caused to the vehicles is significant.

“It is unclear whether these two incidents are linked however we are keeping an open mind at this stage and are appealing for any information which could assist with our enquiries.

“We are urging anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area around the times of either of these incidents to come forward.

“We are particularly keen to speak with anyone who may have dash-cam footage or private CCTV from the surrounding area that could assist with our enquiries.”
