All emergency services – including the air ambulance – have been deployed to the scene and southbound carriageway remains closed
Following a “serious” crash in Cambridgeshire today, the A1(M) is closed. As a result, traffic is being redirected. On the southbound carriageway, emergency services, including the air ambulance, are present.
Between Junction 13 (Brampton) and Junction 15 (Sawtry), there is a closure in place. Due to bank holiday traffic, roads are busier than usual, and lines are growing.
Additionally, a separate detour was implemented and the northbound lane was closed. But as of right now, the closure has been lifted.
“The A1(M) in Cambridgeshire is closed southbound between J16 (Sawtry) and J13 (A1 – Brampton) following a serious multiple vehicle collision,” a National Highways representative stated. All lanes are currently moving on the open northbound roadway.
“Every emergency service is still on site, and Cambridgeshire police are in charge of the response. Since the road would probably stay closed all evening, contractors and traffic officers have strategically closed it.”
A1(M) diversion route
National Highways said the following diversion route is now in place due to the A1(M) closure:
Southbound:
Drivers using the southbound diversion are being advised to follow the solid triangle diversion on road signs.
Exit at J15 and at the roundabout take the second exit on to the B1043. Remain on the B1043 southbound over 4 roundabouts to RAF Alconbury.
At the roundabout with the roundabout with the A1307 take the second exit and merge on to the A1307 southbound. Keep left and exit at J23 ( Huntingdon ).
At the roundabout take the third exit on to the A141 westbound to the Brampton Hut Interchange. At the Brampton Hut Interchange roundabout traffic bound for the A1 southbound and A14 eastbound take the first exit from the roundabout, traffic bound for the A14 westbound take the second exit to remain on the A141 to join the A14 at J21
