A Wallington runner dies after car loses control at Sutton

A automobile lost control and climbed the pavement, injuring the Wallington man, turning his usual jog into a life-or-death situation.

The Wallington man was injured when a car lost control and climbed the pavement, making his routine jog a potentially fatal circumstance.

Steve was left seriously ill while travelling.

When London’s Air Ambulance arrived, it was believed that the man had potentially fatal injuries.

It’s astounding to understand the breadth of the care and the expertise they bring to the table, according to Steve.

Steve’s injuries included a badly fractured leg, compressed lungs, and a potentially fatal pelvic injury from which he was bleeding internally.
The team gave Steve a blood transfusion, put him into a coma to take control of his breathing, and decompressed his chest to expand his collapsed lungs.

To increase his chances of making it to the hospital, Steve also had a high-risk procedure—REBOA—done on the side of the road.

This treatment, which involves inserting a catheter into the body’s major artery and inflating a balloon to block blood flow to the pelvis, can protect patients from bleeding to death.

“It blows my mind what the team were able to do, there on the roadside on a freezing cold New Year’s Day,” said Clare, Steve’s wife.

It’s a blessing that London Air Ambulance arrived at our location at the appropriate moment.

Steve wouldn’t have survived if it had been much longer.

This year, London’s Air Ambulance Charity is the beneficiary of Omaze’s most recent fundraising initiative, which involves holding prize drawings to generate money for charitable causes.

After a long period of recuperation and hard work spanning more than three years, Clare and Steve have returned home with their kids.

Both Clare and the Air Ambulance Charity in London are still appreciative of the service, and Clare regularly volunteers there.

“The truth is that anything like this can happen to anyone at any time,” Clare stated. However, my family was fortunate to have London’s Air Ambulance nearby when it did occur.

“I hope that London supports Omaze in this campaign and makes sure that the service is available to the next family in need.”
