A 70-year-old woman has appeared in court accused of killing a baby girl who died in a road accident outside a hospital at St Albans

Bridget Curtis faced Llanelli Magistrates’ Court accused of causing the death of eight-month-old Mabli Cariad Hall by reckless driving. Curtis, of Begelly, Pembrokeshire, spoke only to confirm her name, date of birth and address during the brief hearing.

The case, the court heard, could only be heard by a judge, and Swansea Crown Court was assigned to try it.

The offender was given unconditional bail and instructed to show up on September 20 for a plea and trial preparation hearing at Swansea Crown Court.

Mabli her away on 21 June of last year following a collision between her pram and a white BMW outside the Pembrokeshire Withybush Hospital entrance.

After being airlifted to Cardiff’s University Hospital of Wales and then moved to Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, she passed away four days later.

Mabli died from serious traumatic brain injuries, according to the beginning of the inquest.

Mabli’s family said in a statement released by Dyfed-Powys Police that they are still processing their loss.

“This past year has been the most horrific period of our lives,” they declared.

“Our family’s life has been completely altered, and we are still working through the aftermath.

“Even though every day is painful for us right now, we still have a responsibility as parents to love and support our other children, who are still grieving the loss of their little sister.”
