Sheffield United is eager to win the competition for another player the Whites are interested in after they were able to wrest Jamie Shackleton from Leeds United earlier this month.
Shackleton chose to accept a three-year contract at Bramall Lane in order to finish his 17-year career at Leeds, albeit, as a result of a lack of playing time.
Due to continuous takeover talks, the Blades have had a challenging start to the summer. However, Shackleton’s signing has helped them somewhat.
Sam McCallum and Shackleton signed on a free agent earlier this week, and according to sources, Kieffer Moore will be the first player they have to pay a price for.
Liam Millar’s most likely destination this summer now revealed
Leeds has been examining wingers a lot this summer, but any further moves will probably rely on what happens to Crysencio Summerville and Willy Gnonto.
Since the play-off final loss, the two young stars have been strongly linked to leaving, but Leeds believes they are in a stronger position to retain them following Archie Gray’s departure.
The “brilliant” FC Basel winger Liam Millar, who spent the previous season on loan at Preston North End, has been highlighted as one possible target in the event that one or both of them depart.
Over the past three weeks, Leeds has been following him while he competes for Canada at the Copa America under Jesse Marsch. His tournament will come to a conclusion tonight with the third and fourth place play-off.
Other teams that have been linked to Millar include Sheffield United, and the Yorkshire Evening Post claims that the Blades are the most likely destination.
Millar’s contract contains a release clause, so a transaction might happen quickly. Chris Wilder can transfer first because Leeds’ winger situation is unsettled.
Leeds would need better than Millar anyway
Leeds would have lost 27 league goals from the team from the previous season if Summerville and Gnonto were to depart.
Leeds would have plenty of money to invest on replacements if the 49ers were able to fetch more than £50 million for both of them.
Considering the calibre of players Summerville and Gnonto has at this level, Millar is just not a good enough substitute to start for them.
Therefore, Leeds’ summer window really wouldn’t suffer too much if Sheffield United won the race.
