Police, paramedics, and an air ambulance rushed to the scene of the incident.
The Manchester Evening News understands that a woman died after being struck by a taxi in Middleton. The woman, in her 70s, was brought to the hospital after the collision on Burton Street, near Middleton Shopping Centre, about midday.
As police and paramedics rushed to the site, an air ambulance was dispatched and landed in a field off Limetrees Road.
Greater Manchester Police said that the woman was hit by a Toyota Prius cab as she crossed the road near McDonald’s and Factory Street. She had life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital from the site.
It is believed that the victim died in the hospital a few days later. Police have not yet disclosed her actual age.
An inquiry into the horrific crash is ongoing. A guy in his 30s was previously arrested on suspicion of inflicting serious injury by driving without necessary care and attention, but he was released on bail.
According to one man who watched the aftermath, the incident occurred in a disabled parking space. He stated that the elderly is being treated by paramedics.
Photographs from the scene showed a section of the retail district blocked off outside McDonald’s restaurant and the Edgar Wood Pub. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information or footage from it should call GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit.
Previously, a GMP spokesperson stated: “Our Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) is now requesting that anyone who witnessed the incident come forward.” They also want to contact with anyone who may have dashcam, mobile phone, or doorbell footage from the vicinity in the moments leading up to the crash.”
