A child is fighting for their life after they were caught up in a horror crash that killed one man and injured six others.
The youngster was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries after police were called to the scene of a smash on an unnamed road in Devon on Monday afternoon involving two cars. Police called to attend the crash reportedly involving a Vauxhall Astra and Kia Rio arrived to find a 46-year-old man in the front latter car’s passenger seat, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Attending paramedics transported four others to the hospital from the scene near Tavistock after they sustained serious injuries, and a further three who suffered minor injuries. Paramedics also transported four people to hospital with serious injuries and a further three who suffered minor injuries.
Devon and Cornwall Police have arrested one person, a man in his 30s from Peterborough, on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving following the incident. A spokesperson for the service said the man has since been released on bail pending further investigations and called for people who may have relevant information to come forward.
They said: “Police investigating a fatal road traffic collision near Tavistock on Monday are appealing for any witnesses to come forward. Officers were called to reports of a collision involving a Vauxhall Astra and a Kia Rio at Iron Railings Cross, on an unnamed road near Tavistock at around 12.55pm.
They added: “The emergency services attended the scene, and an investigation has been opened to establish the full circumstances. The road was reopened at around 12.30am on Tuesday . A man in his 30s from Peterborough has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving. He has been released on bail, pending further investigations.
