Update from police – crash confirmed as fatal

Police have confirmed a man has died following this morning’s collision.

A Cheshire Police spokeswoman said: “Sadly, a man, who was passenger of the white Suzuki, died at the scene.

“His next of kin have been informed and they are being supported by specialist officers.

“The drivers of both vehicles were also taken to hospital with serious injuries.”

The road is still closed as of 1pm on Thursday (July 18).

According to the AA, ‘crash investigation work’ is now taking place resulting in ‘heavy traffic’.

Update from police

Cheshire Police have confirmed Runcorn Road remains closed between Barnton and the A49 as emergency services work at the scene.

Officers were called at 9.16am following reports of a crash between a blue Ford Focus and a white Suzuki Celerio.

Two people have been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Two people taken to hospital

North West Ambulance Service has confirmed that two people have now been taken to hospital with ‘suspected serious injuries’.

One was taken by road and the other by air ambulance.

NWAS were called to the scene at 9.14am.

They sent three ambulance crews, an advanced paramedic, two air ambulances, the Hazardous Area Response Team and an operational commander.

Update from fire service

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service has now confirmed that three people have been freed from the two vehicles.

They have now been handed into the care of paramedics.

Runcorn Road remains closed.

2:15am

The AA is reporting that there is ‘heavy traffic’ as a result of the crash.

It is understood Runcorn Road is closed in both directions between the A49 Warrington Road (Tall Trees Junction) to Stone Heyes Lane.

2:03am

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene at around 9.22am this morning (July 18).

Two fire engines, one each from the Lymm and Northwich stations, are in attendance.

A spokesperson said: “Emergency services are dealing with a two-vehicle road traffic collision.

“A full road closure is in place on Runcorn Road, please avoid the area.

“Police, North West Ambulance Service, and the air ambulance are also in attendance.”
