Two women have died in a tragic Northumberland collision, as police appeal for witnesses. Just before 9am today, police received a report of a two-vehicle collision on the A1068 Sheepwash Road, near Ashington.

It was reported that a Ford Fiesta and a BMW X6 collided, and emergency services attended the scene. Both the driver and passenger of the Ford Fiesta were found to have sustained life-threatening injuries.

Despite the efforts of those involved, two women, aged 19 and 46, were pronounced dead at the scene. The next of kin of the two women have been notified, and are being supported by specially trained officers, while the driver of the BMW remained at the scene to assist with enquiries.

Officers have initiated a thorough investigation and are urging anyone with information they think could be useful to come forward. They are especially interested in speaking with anyone who may have dashcam footage and was driving in the vicinity.

While the vehicles involved in the collision are being recovered, the A1068 Sheepwash Road is still closed. Drivers are being encouraged to look for alternate routes whenever possible.

Two people have died in this heartbreakingly tragic tragedy, according to Sergeant John Sanderson of Northumbria Police’s Serious Collision Investigations Unit. As their loved ones attempt to come to terms with what has happened, our thoughts are with them.

“We’re doing everything we can to fully understand the circumstances which led to this tragic incident. We would like to hear from any motorists who were passing through and think they have information about what happened, or any dashcam footage they would like to submit.

Witnesses should contact Northumbria Police by sending a DM on social media, or by visiting the website here. Those unable to do this should call 101, quoting the log number NP-20240905-0201.
