A community leader claims that a village road that has been blocked down for over a week due to an accident has created “a great disturbance” and “taken too long to rectify”.
At approximately 2:00 PM a collision occurred at the Hollesley crossroads at Ducks Corner, resulting in oil spillage from the involved lorry onto the road.
The Suffolk County Council has indicated that next week will see work done on the resurfacing and verges.
James Mallinder, a councillor representing East Suffolk, stated: “I’m thrilled that Highways is responding to the situation with the necessary urgency right now.
“Although challenging originally, the information flow has been better.
“The road closure has caused a great disturbance for the village and the community and locally we feel it has taken too long to rectify the situation.
“Commercial businesses and people living here have been massively affected.”
One of Councillor Mallinder’s concerns was the time it would take for emergency services to reach the village.
A spokesperson for Suffolk County Council said: “We recognise the inconvenience and frustrations caused by the road closure and lack of notification to the local community. We are reviewing our process to ensure more effective and timely updates in the future.
“We can confirm that the section of damaged road surface will be resurfaced
” the verges will be reconstructed to replace the contaminated area, and the installation of new road markings will follow as soon as possible.
“The road will remain closed until the verge works are completed on Wednesday. We apologise for the frustrations caused whilst the road has been closed.”
Temporary signs will be in place until road marking contractors are available and the planned Anglian Water works on Hollesley Road will be rescheduled
