Police appeal for witnesses after two-car crash at busy Sutton Coldfield junction leads to driver being taken to hospital

At the intersection of Jockey Road and Chester Road, close to the Beggars Bush pub in Sutton Coldfield, two electric cars collided.

Following a two-car collision at a busy Sutton Coldfield intersection that caused bus services to be diverted for several hours, a woman was transported to the hospital. It happened this morning, Tuesday, September 17, just after 7 a.m. near the Beggars Bush intersection in New Oscott.

The two electric cars crashed at the intersection of Chester Road and Jockey Road. Vehicles from the police, fire department, and ambulance arrived at the scene. Two teams from West Midlands Ambulance Service responded to the scene. “We were called to reports of a two-car road traffic collision on Chester Road at 7.11am,” a service spokesperson stated.

Upon our arrival, we found two patients—both female. Before being transported to Good Hope Hospital, one was treated for injuries that weren’t thought to be significant. At the scene, a second woman was evaluated and released.

“We had a call at 7.23am that two cars had collided on the road at the junction of Chester Road and Jockey Road,” a West Midlands Fire Service spokeswoman continued. When we got there at 7:26 a.m., we saw that both cars had all four wheels.

“There were two electric automobiles. The engine blocks had some superficial damage. One female driver managed to free herself, underwent safety inspections, and was transported to Good Hope Hospital via ambulance.
The other driver, a woman once more, managed to get out on her own and was given some safety checks but chose not to visit the hospital. While they handled the retrieval, the police who were present blocked off the road. We arrived at the scene at 8:23 a.m. and left in less than an hour.

Several of National Express West Midlands’ bus services were reportedly diverted as a result of the crash. It stated in a post on X: “Service Interruption. A portion of Jockey Road in New Oscott is shut.

Services 77 to Walsall, 907 to Birmingham, and 5 to West Bromwich were rerouted via College Road and Chester Road, College Road, and Chester Road. We apologize for any trouble we may have caused. By ten in the morning, the road was clean.
