A5 closed: Major Northamptonshire road closed due to a serious crash

Following a severe collision, the A5 in Northamptonshire has been closed, and the air ambulance has been dispatched. A significant A-road has been closed following a tragic accident.

In Northamptonshire, the A5 is closed in both directions between the A45 at Weedon Bec and the A43 for Towcester. There is an air ambulance as well as all other emergency services available.

Routes for diversion have been established by National Highways while the situation is being handled.

Follow the hollow triangle icon on road signage if travelling north.

Take the third northbound exit from the A5 at the Towcester Roundabout to join the A43.
Proceed north on the A43 until you reach M1 J15a. At the southern roundabout, which is the northbound entry/exit slip road, turn left (north) to enter the M1 northbound at M1 J15a.

Proceed in the direction of M1 J16 on the M1. Take the first exit onto the A45 at M1 J16.

Proceed via the villages of Upper Heyford and Flore on the A45 until you reach the A45/A5 Weedon junction, where you may re-join the A5 heading north.
Travelling south, stay on the hollow diamond diversion sign.
At the A5/A45 Weedon junction, turn left (eastbound) onto the A45 after leaving the A5 southbound.

Proceed via Flore and Upper Heyford villages on the A45 till you reach the M1 J16. Take the third exit onto the M1 southbound at M1 J16.
Follow the M1 southward until you reach J15a. Leave the M1 at J15a and go to the Swan Valley Roundabout/southbound entering slip road.
Proceed directly ahead until you reach the A5123/A43 roundabout. Take the A43/M1J15a NB entry slip road roundabout to your right (south). Next, proceed directly onto the first exit, which is the A43 southwest.

After reaching the A43/A5 Towcester Roundabout, proceed south on the A43 and re-join the A5 southbound route.

National Highways says drivers should allow extra time, and delay their journey if possible. Further information is available.
