Officers are at the scene this morning
The Manchester Evening News has learnt of a fatality from a terrifying collision that occurred on a busy road outside the city centre. Regent Road and several other nearby roads near Mancunian Way have been blocked by police this morning.
At 2.53 in the morning, police were dispatched to a significant collision on Water Street. Following the collision, police have blocked off Regent Road, which crosses the Salford boundary. Motorists are advised to stay away from the area.
There is a forensic tent at the scene, and there are evidence markers on the road. In order to collect evidence, officers have been taking pictures of the road, and in certain places, police tape has been erected.
A GMP spokesman said: “Emergency services are responding to a serious collision that occurred on Water Street, Manchester at around 2:53am this morning. A scene remains in place while our Serious Collision Investigation Unit continue their investigation.
“Road closures remain in place and drivers are advised to find alternative routes and plan their journeys accordingly.” A tweet from the Bee Network warned road users: “Delays in the area are expected, plan your route.”
