After an amazing 126 hours and 52 minutes, Afua Asantewaa Owusu Aduonum has successfully wrapped up her enthralling quest to set a new record for the singing marathon.
Although confirmation from the Guinness World mark judges is still pending, Asantewaa’s performance is thought to have greatly surpassed the previous mark, which was established by Sunil Waghmare of India in 2012.
On December 24, 2023, at midnight, the marathon began. It ended early on December 29, 2023. After getting medical assistance onstage behind a screen, Asantewaa spoke to her followers and admitted that she had become disoriented over the five-day attempt.
At the Akwaaba Village in Accra, Asantewaa expressed thanks for the support she received from politicians, musicians, and security personnel, stating her hope that this accomplishment would encourage women and young people throughout the nation.
“On behalf of my husband, my family, my team, volunteers, media, Ghana Tourism Authority, I will like to say a big thank you to each and everyone who participated in this singathon attempt,” Asantewaa stated.
“This was a mere dream that was visualised in just a period of five days, I say just because I don’t even remember how it started not to talk of how it ended” . “We think and hope that this will serve as an example for all women, young people, and individuals to step outside of their comfort zone and explore new possibilities. There is plenty to do, and if you set your mind to something, you can accomplish it.”
