GRANT MCCASLAND’S BRILLIANCE REWARDED! TEXAS TECH LOCKS DOWN COACH WITH LUCRATIVE LONG-TERM CONTRACT EXTENSION FOLLOWING HISTORIC ELITE EIGHT CAMPAIGN

Lubbock, TX – May 18, 2025 — In a move met with widespread celebration across Raiderland, Texas Tech University has officially extended the contract of head men’s basketball coach Grant McCasland, securing his services for the long term after a historic season that culminated in an electrifying run to the NCAA Tournament’s Elite Eight.

Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt made the announcement Friday morning, citing McCasland’s visionary leadership, unwavering commitment to excellence, and the foundational culture he’s instilled in the Red Raiders’ program. While financial terms were not disclosed, sources close to the program confirm that the extension is among the most lucrative in school history, signaling Texas Tech’s full commitment to sustaining and building upon the momentum McCasland has generated.

“Grant has exceeded every expectation since stepping into this role,” said Hocutt in a press release. “His ability to inspire, to lead with integrity, and to get the absolute best out of his student-athletes has reinvigorated our program. This extension is not just about rewarding past success—it’s about our unwavering belief in the direction we’re headed under his leadership.”

McCasland, who arrived at Texas Tech in 2023 after a successful stint at North Texas, has quickly revitalized the Red Raiders. Known for his intense defensive schemes, high character, and player development acumen, McCasland led Texas Tech to a 27-10 record this past season. The Red Raiders’ improbable run through the NCAA Tournament featured statement wins over top seeds and ended with a hard-fought loss in the Elite Eight—the program’s deepest tournament run since their 2019 Final Four appearance.

“This journey has been incredibly special,” McCasland said in a statement. “Texas Tech is home to me and my family. The support from our administration, our incredible fans, and most of all, our players, has been everything. We’re building something truly special here, and I’m honored to continue leading this program.”

Fans, alumni, and former players erupted with joy on social media following the announcement, praising the university’s commitment to continuity and a culture rooted in accountability and hard work. The news comes amid increased interest from other major programs around the country, further underscoring Texas Tech’s determination to remain a national contender under McCasland’s guidance.

With recruiting momentum at an all-time high and the majority of the team’s core expected to return next season, the future looks bright in Lubbock. McCasland’s extension provides not only security but a clear statement that Texas Tech aims to be more than just a tournament threat—it wants to be a perennial powerhouse.

“This is a program on the ascension,” Hocutt added. “Coach McCasland has captured the spirit of West Texas—resilient, tough, and unrelenting. We couldn’t be more excited for what’s ahead.”

As Red Raider Nation basks in the glow of a landmark season and looks ahead with optimism, one thing is clear: Grant McCasland is here to stay, and Texas Tech basketball is officially back among college basketball’s elite.
