Rumors that Paul Onuachu had submitted a transfer request amid strong connections to Trabzonspor have been refuted by Southampton manager Russell Martin, according to Soccernet.ng.
After an impressive season-long loan with Trabzonspor, the Super Eagles forward returned to St Mary’s Stadium, sparking rumors about a potential permanent move back to Turkey.
In the midst of Southampton and the Turkish club’s ongoing transfer drama, reports surfaced indicating that Onuachu had made an official transfer request.
Martin, though, has denied these rumors, saying he hasn’t heard of the Nigerian international making a transfer request.
“As far as I’m aware, no transfer request has been made. I’ll let you know if I hear anything different. He is working out hard. He isn’t yet prepared to play. We’ll have to wait and see as he hasn’t been back since Sunday,” Martin remarked, according to SaintsExtra.
Martin claims that Trabzonspor’s offer for Onuachu is significantly less than Southampton’s €13 million asking price for the striker. The club will not entertain any offers below this sum for his sale.
Onuachu is reportedly dissatisfied with the current transfer situation between the two clubs, despite joining Martin’s squad in Spain for preseason training.
