Former Birmingham City striker Che Adams has officially been unveiled as Serie A side Torino’s latest signing.
For the 28-year-old, who has lived in England his whole senior career, it’s quite a change of scenery. That doesn’t mean, though, that he won’t be successful with the Italian team; the striker has shown his value in front of goal over a number of seasons.
Torino would finish ninth in Serie A and so be denied a chance to play in Europe. Even so, it was a little better than their 10th-place result from the previous season, and they will be aiming to advance once more.
Adams was expected to play in the Premier League had he decided to sign a new contract with Southampton, and he may very well assist them achieve that goal. The Scotsman, who played for his country at Euro 2024, has chosen to transfer abroad. His 15 goals and 4 assists for the Saints during their most recent Championship season would have helped them gain promotion through the play-offs.
The striker already has Premier League experience on his resume, having scored 20 goals in 96 top division games for the Saints. He’ll be hoping that he can now carry over his goal-scoring form to Italy.
It’s safe to say that the 28-year-old has embraced each professional advancement. Following his early success in League One with Sheffield United, Adams would later sign a £2 million contract to join Birmingham City in the summer of 2016.
He would get better every season with the Blues, and he may have had his best year ever in the 2018–19 campaign. After recording 22 goals and five assists that season, the striker proved to be a wise investment as he earned a Premier League transfer to the Saints, costing Birmingham a cool £14 million.
Since his contract at St. Mary’s expired this summer, there is no cost associated with his relocation to Torino. The Scotsman is clearly committed to the long term, as evidenced by his three-year contract, and he may achieve new heights in Italy.
