We are requesting that any witnesses come forward in relation to an alleged sexual assault that may have occurred in the Totton area.
It follows reports that at around 11 a.m. yesterday (16 July), a woman was approached by an unidentified man at a bus shelter on Commercial Road. The man followed the woman onto a T3 or T4 bus after making an effort to strike up a conversation with her.
The man is accused of leaning over and kissing the woman on the bus without getting her permission, then going up to her again after other passengers had left that section of the bus.
A 23-year-old Southampton man has been detained on suspicion of sexual assault as a result of our investigation. Since then, he has been freed while an investigation is ongoing and pending more police inquiries.
We would, however, be interested in speaking with anyone who may have boarded the bus yesterday morning from the Totton Commercial Road area between 11 and 11.15 a.m.
We are asking anyone with information about this incident to call 101 and mention the crime reference 44240301366.
