Following his release from Southampton, former Birmingham City center-forward Che Adams is reportedly nearing an agreement to sign with Serie A team Torino.
Since Adams was nearing the end of his St. Mary’s Stadium contract last summer, several Premier League teams, notably Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers, who were trying to boost their forward lines, expressed interest in signing him.
Although there were attempts to sign the striker in January of last year, Adams stayed with the Saints and helped lead the team back to the English football premier league at the first try, forging a powerful front-line partnership with Adam Armstrong. The Scotland international, who officially departed Southampton as a free agent at the beginning of July, finished the previous season with 18 goals and six assists.
Although Adams’s future with the Saints remains uncertain, head coach Russell Martin acknowledged last week that it was doubtful the player would agree to a new deal. Additionally, Italian journalist Giacomo Morandin disclosed on Sunday morning that the striker was on the verge of joining Torino in the top division of Italy, but that “some details still need to be finalised.”
However, transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has since confirmed what Morandin said, stating that Adams has been persuaded by the club’s project and that Il Toro and the Scotsman have begun the latter stages of negotiations.
In 2014, the 28-year-old paid under £1.5 million to go from Sheffield United to Birmingham City. The forward, who was born in Leicester, played 123 games for the West Midlands team, contributing 51 goals. In 2019, he was traded to Southampton for a fee of £15 million.

Adams’ tenure with the south coast side has not been without its ups and downs, but it is commendable that he has now chosen to leave the league and move to a new nation with an entirely different culture rather than return to the Premier League with the Saints.
Many bettors would have guessed that Adams, who was a rising star for Birmingham City in his early 20s, would go on to play for some of Scotland’s best clubs. Regretfully, despite his stellar statistics from the previous season, his career never quite reached these heights, and it appeared as though his progress at Southampton had somewhat stalled. However, the athlete may benefit from this move as it will provide him the opportunity to play against some of the world’s top teams, such as AC Milan, Juventus, and Inter Milan.
